SUMMARY:Introduction to the Anti-Bias Curriculum
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Brian Silveria and Nadia Joboneta. \nAlleviating bias in our ECE settings is complex. Creating inclusive classrooms requires that we understand and acknowledge our own biases and recognize verbal and non‐ verbal messages conveyed by other adults and children. We need to know how to address these remarks and actions as they occur without causing a shutdown in communication. The Anti‐Bias Practicum Training is a series of interactive sessions designed to support teachers to integrate the Anti‐ Bias Goals into their curriculum. It will provide extended knowledge and practical application skills and strategies. You may choose to attend all sessions or as many sessions that are of particular interest to you. If you are attending the Equity Institute\, please note that the Anti‐Bias Practicum Training is an extension of our Equity Institute. \n\nWhat’s involved?\nThe Anti‐Bias Practicum Training will consist of eight 2.5‐hour highly interactive sessions. The first session will be an introduction to the Anti‐Bias Curriculum. Following the curriculum introduction each of the remaining sessions will focus on providing teaching practices and strategies to help you gain the skills necessary to integrate the anti‐bias goals successfully in your classroom or program. You will have the opportunity to discuss your ideas and plans for implementation\, get responses to your questions and feedback on application strategies from your assigned Coach. \n\nWho should attend?\nThe Anti‐Bias curriculum training is designed for teachers\, administrators and others in the ECE field that supports early learning. \n\nWhy participate?\nYour participation will: \n\nPrepare you to respond to children’s curiosity and\nsocietal influences that affect their self‐concept and\nattitudes towards others;\nAdvance skills and confidence in your ability to\nintegrate strategies to help children live effectively in a\ndiverse and complex world;\nBuild your professional network;\nProvide opportunities to learn from knowledgeable\npeople with expertise in the field.

SUMMARY:Defend San Francisco's ECE Prop C.
DESCRIPTION:Show the Jarvis Tax Association our vote counts—come to court. A great way to start your July 4 celebrations!\n  \n \n  \nThe first hearing of the suit against San Francisco’s Prop C has been set for July 3 at the Superior Court of California. The ruling in this case (as well as those against Prop G\, public schools\, and Prop C\, Housing) will significantly change our ability to access needed community resources. Come in July 4th attire and defend citizens’ democracy. \n  \nFifty community members will fill the court—we’ll be there with housing Prop C too— so will fill up fast. We will request those who do get in to report out. Press has requested to be in the court room too. Most important to show support outside the building (8:45 AM) & be prepared to enter the court building at 9 AM! Court is scheduled for 9:30 AM. Court dates can change at the last minute—stay tuned here and to Early Care Educators of San Francisco’s facebook page for last minute details. \n  \nFamily & child friendly? Yes!\nIf you have children and need space—use the grassy area in Civic Center Plaza kitty-corner to our meet up. We’ll keep an eye out for you! The hearing is open to the public including children and families—space will be limited. We’re requested to leave the courtroom as needed for noise. All can come & go from the courtroom as needed\, space allowing. There is some access to drop-in child care in the court building\, and a park across the street with a playground—show your support and then have a picnic! \n  \nSpread the word!\nLet your community know that the court case blocking San Francisco’s democratic vote for more public resources for early care & education—Prop C (June 2018)— is moving forward. Share our Facebook post in your community. Register below to let us know you’ll be there.
