SUMMARY:SFCCPA Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a review\, Q&A\, and feedback session on two proposals to revise the statewide QRIS system.\n\nThe statewide Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) is being revised. The CDE and First 5 California convened a Rating Matrix Workgroup to develop proposals. Two new matrices have been put forward by the workgroup. One of the two proposals will be selected\, in its entirety\, as the next statewide QRIS through a vote by each of the regional consortia. The vote will take place in August.\n\nThis summer the SF Consortium will be listening to community reviews to inform their vote. It is important to have feedback from center and family child care educators to decide which of the two best supports early care and education at the site level. We’ve invited the QRIS Team\, First 5 SF staff and Consortia members\, Jennifer Martinez and Lisa Lee\, to our next SFCCPA meeting to present the matrices\, answer questions\, and hear your feedback.\n\nPlease review the following materials before the meeting:\n\nOverview of QRIS\nFAQs\nBenchmark Matrix Option\nContinuum Matrix Option\n\nWe will also share a webinar reviewing the two matrix options as soon as it becomes available.\n  \nA light meal is served to keep you going at the end of a long day. Professional Development hours are available to meeting participants. SFCCPA monthly meetings are scheduled for the 4th Monday of each month.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Bird Language with Jon Young and Kathleen Lockyer
DESCRIPTION:Bird Language is an ancient skill that people have used to help them survive and thrive for thousands of years. The birds are the “newsfeed” of the ecosystem—they tell us where water\, food\, safety\, or danger is. We can learn to understand this language. \nOver the last 30 years\, we have proven the effectiveness\, accessibility and love of this practice among all ages\, from preschool children to young adults and elders. It is the fastest gateway to nature connection for all ages. \nJoin us at beautiful Lake Merritt\, designated as a wildlife refuge for migrating birds since 1869. Together\, we will practice nature connection through an experiential workshop that activates all of our senses to understand what the birds are telling us — far beyond bird watching. \nSpend an afternoon mindfully tuning into the “five voices” of the birds and the meaning behind various flight patterns. In small groups\, create maps of the activity in the area\, revealing the “story of the day” as the birds tell us what is happening in this ecosystem on a profound level.

SUMMARY:Teachers' Day Movies: Backpack Full of Cash & Once Upon a Time
DESCRIPTION:What better way to appreciate teachers? SFCCPA invites you to two films on education\, from early care & education to our K12 public system: a celebratory & educational event — followed by community discussion. \n  \nOnce Upon a Time\n6:30 pm\, 32 minutes\nAn episode of California Newsreel\, The Raising of America\nImagine how different things would be today if quality early care and education had been available to any family that wanted it for the past 45 years. It almost happened! Thanks to California Newsreel for making & giving special permission to show this episode at The Roxie! \n  \nBackpack Full of Cash\n7:05 pm\, 1 hr 36 minutes\nBefore the 2016 U.S. presidential election and the appointment of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos\, filmmakers Sarah Mondale and Vera Aronow couldn’t have known that the national education debate would dramatically shift to the very issues at the heart of their film: charter schools\, vouchers and privatization. Now\, this timely new documentary\, Backpack Full of Cash\, takes viewers into the world of market-based education “reform.” \n  \nPay what you can. Suggested prices are based on that fact that early care and education providers’ wages are half that of the average women’s wage (similar to a K12 teacher) and one third of the average male income earner. Teaching is #essentialwork — fund it! \n  \nTickets available through The Roxie’s ticket office.\nTicket prices:\nECE educators – $4\nK12 educators – $8\nAverage SF male wage earner – $12\nSupportive high income earner! – $20\nI’m doing fine and want to support educators! – $50 \nSupport the San Francisco Child Care Providers’ Association. No one turned away for lack of funds.
