DESCRIPTION:Show the Jarvis Tax Association our vote counts—come to court. A great way to start your July 4 celebrations!\n  \n \n  \nThe first hearing of the suit against San Francisco’s Prop C has been set for July 3 at the Superior Court of California. The ruling in this case (as well as those against Prop G\, public schools\, and Prop C\, Housing) will significantly change our ability to access needed community resources. Come in July 4th attire and defend citizens’ democracy. \n  \nFifty community members will fill the court—we’ll be there with housing Prop C too— so will fill up fast. We will request those who do get in to report out. Press has requested to be in the court room too. Most important to show support outside the building (8:45 AM) & be prepared to enter the court building at 9 AM! Court is scheduled for 9:30 AM. Court dates can change at the last minute—stay tuned here and to Early Care Educators of San Francisco’s facebook page for last minute details. \n  \nFamily & child friendly? Yes!\nIf you have children and need space—use the grassy area in Civic Center Plaza kitty-corner to our meet up. We’ll keep an eye out for you! The hearing is open to the public including children and families—space will be limited. We’re requested to leave the courtroom as needed for noise. All can come & go from the courtroom as needed\, space allowing. There is some access to drop-in child care in the court building\, and a park across the street with a playground—show your support and then have a picnic! \n  \nSpread the word!\nLet your community know that the court case blocking San Francisco’s democratic vote for more public resources for early care & education—Prop C (June 2018)— is moving forward. Share our Facebook post in your community. Register below to let us know you’ll be there.

The summit is a call to early childhood educators\, practitioners\, and leaders to reflect on and understand our positions as change agents and to uplift strategies that move us toward building an equitable society in which our children\, families\, and educators will thrive in. \nParticipants will register for one morning and one afternoon workshop. The morning workshop theme is Reflecting Inward to Improve Our Power as ECE Professionals. The afternoon workshop theme is Applications of Equity and Leadership Practices in the ECE Sector. Workshop descriptions can be found below. Radical Healing for ECE Educators presented by Jazz Hudson from Flourish Agenda \n\nParticipants will learn how to apply Radical Healing (RH) to their work and personal lives. This workshop provides a space to explore RH how to integrate the principle of the meaning through a “Who Am I” writing exercise that can also be used as a tool to build connections with peers and co-workers.\n\n2. Radical Healing for ECE Educators presented by Sizwe Andrews-Abakah from Flourish Agenda \n\nParticipants will learn how to apply Radical Healing (RH) to their work and personal lives. This workshop provides a space to explore RH how to integrate the principle of the meaning through a “Who Am I” writing exercise that can also be used as a tool to build connections with peers and co-workers.\n\n3. Radical Healing for ECE Educators presented by Mara Diaz from Flourish Agenda (presented in Spanish) \n\nParticipants will learn how to apply Radical Healing (RH) to their work and personal lives. Yes! You can Be a Leader presented by Pat Sullivan from FCCASF and Sara Hicks-Kilday from ECESF \n\nLeadership is for everyone. This workshop focuses on the inner strengths\, skills\, perspectives and personal characteristics you can combine to make you a trailblazer. ECE practitioners need to be at the table helping stakeholders understand how regulations and policies impact teachers\, children\, and families.\n\n6. Interrupting the Cycle of Inequities presented by Eliana Elias and Casey Federico from SF Quality Connections \n\nThis open and honest conversation highlights the role coaches\, site supervisors and professional development specialists have in supporting educators to see themselves as critical participants in social change.Real stories are shared to show how a reflective framework makes connections between teaching practices and the reproduction (or interruption) of inequities.\n\n7. Equity-by-Design: Learning to be Brave on the Rocks presented by Michelle Grant-Groves from i3 Institute \n\nParticipants will explore how to create authentic spaces of inclusion\, beauty\, and belonging that are both “safe” and “brave” for the learning community. Together\, we will use an inquiry framework that moves us away from “what about me” conversations and into collaboratively designing “how about we” solutions.\n\n8. Diversity Beyond the Potlucks: An Inclusive Cultural Approach presented by Madonna Stancil and Sandra Davis from Felton Institute \n\nThis workshop aims to open mindsets and transform previously learned behaviors into positive actions for equity. Participants will explore strategies and approaches for creating an inclusive environment that will nurture educators’ interactions\, identity development\, and ability to resist bias in a cultural context.\n\n9. Anti-bias Curriculum: What can we do to bring these values to life in our classroom? presented by Nadia Jaboneta and Brian Silveira from Pacific Primary \n\nWhile considering the many facets of diversity\, participants will explore what Anti-bias curriculum is and ways to introduce children to the diverse world in which they live. Through reflection\, sharing stories and examining children’s literature\, teachers will discover age-appropriate strategies to confront bias and unfairness in a myriad of situations.\n\n10. Implicit Bias and You presented by Sandra D. Moore and Sheila Norman from BANDTEC \n\nThrough interactive activities\, discussions\, and reflection on where our biases come from; we will take an inward look at the part that we play in social injustice within the ECE community. Awareness building activities will help us understand that we all have biases and awareness make us stronger ECE professionals.\n\nAfternoon Workshops:\n1. An Equity Lens of San Francisco ECE Compensation presented by Sara Hicks-Kilday from ECESF and Denise Corvino from OECE (Spanish and Cantonese translation available) \n\nParticipants will receive the latest information on SF early childhood educator wages; including discrepancies along racial and ethnic lines and job positions. The group will reflect and discuss equity implications for educators\, children\, and families\, provide input for current proposals\, and be introduced to opportunities for ongoing involvement.\n\n2. Leading for Racial Equity presented by Neva Bandelow and Dr. LaWanda Wesley from Alameda Office of Education \n\nOur current early childhood system design and inability to adapt to rapid change leads us to address how we envision leadership. Learn about our leadership development model that utilizes racial equity as drivers for change. Move on with tools and strategies to meet your community needs for 21st century leadership.\n\n3. Looking Beyond Ourselves to Create Equitable Learning Environments for Young Learners presented by Sandy Osborne from Sandy Osborne Consulting \n\nThis workshop offers participants an opportunity to reflect on their own cultural biases and past experiences as we discuss equitable learning environments. Through images\, we will examine the role of the educator in making thoughtful decisions about the physical classroom environment\, materials\, provocations and experiences being offered to children.\n\n4. Supporting Emerging Leaders: Cultivating their Voice\, Agency\, Influence\, and Leadership presented by Yohana Quiroz from Felton Institute \n\nLeadership occurs at all levels in the early childhood education field. From teacher’s assistants to supervisors\, how we perceive our roles as educators and change agents in the field of ECE is critical . In this session\, we will focus on how to serve as mentors to increase the leadership diversity and strengthen the early childhood leadership pipeline.\n\n5. History/Social Studies in Early Education Classrooms presented by Betty Pazmino and Ravi Kline from SFUSD Early Education Department \n\nSFUSD’s Early Education Department developed a curriculum in response to the need for teachers to examine their own cultural biases to create culturally responsive and relevant early education classroom environments. Participants will learn about the curriculum and how it can be child-centered and equity focused. Resources will be provided.\n\n6. My Culture is Not a Costume: Creating Culturally Responsive Learning Communities presented by Michelle Grant-Groves from i3 Institute \n\nWe will explore how to design learning spaces with authentic relationships in mind. Move beyond Pinterest and Instagram for ideas and inspiration in designing developmentally\, culturally\, and linguistically responsive learning spaces and environments. #ItsAllAboutTheRelationship\n\n7.
