SUMMARY:November 14\, SFCCPA Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:This has been an emotional week. Some of my most supportive moments have come from small and meaningful group discussions. I would like to open this meeting to concerns brought about by the national elections while we focus on group discussions to support our early care and education work\, the children and families we work with\, as well as our families and communities.\n\nWhat are our needs\, strengths\, and hopes that will help us continue our work and survive? What are our biggest issues & priorities? What do we want to see done about it? What are our most effective messages and actions?  \n\n\nI’ve attached some notes from past discussions focused on issues of teacher turnover and professional development supports for your reflection. Our discussion will not be limited to these. \n\nWe will also have updates on our annual conference\, inquiry group proposal\, CPAC priorities\, and ongoing city-wide ECE planning.\n\nJoin our group discussions to build our voice and impact. \n

SUMMARY:6th Annual Walk Around the Block
DESCRIPTION:Photos from the event \n   \n \n\nJoin us on the steps of City Hall\, April 15 at 10 AM\, to celebrate the Week of the Young Child and advocate for resources early childhood educators need to provide young children the care and education they deserve.  \nAt their December 17 meeting\, the OECE Citizens Advisory Committee went on record in support of policy to pay early care and education teachers on par with K-12 teachers. With a slim increase to ECE in Governor Brown’s budget\, released in December\, and Mayor Lee’s request to SF Departments to cut their budgets\, we have our work cut out. Nonetheless\, the OECE CAC recommendation is an important milestone.  \nLet’s make loud and clear the need for state and San Francisco funding to address the ECE wage crisis. It’s time to walk! \n\nWhat can you do to get ready for the 15th?\n \n1.  Take a moment to write a letter to the editor to let the San Francisco community know how important ECE is\, that the Week of the Young Child is coming up April 10-16\, and the Walk Around the Block is on April 15. Here’s how. You can see a sample letter to the editor here.\n \n\n\nYou can also send a letter to your Supervisor. Do you know yours? Here’s a list.\n \n\nHold a day—or the whole week—for teachers\, parents\, and your community to write letters at your site.\n \n\n2. Learn the Walk chants and songs. Click here to check out this years list.  \nMake up your own and add to our list!\n \nSome favorites:\nTeachers can’t afford to stay\,\nParents can’t affor to pay\,\nWe need a better way!\n\n\n\nTo the tune of Row\, Row\, Row your boat:\nPay\, Pay\, Pay teachers well\n‘Cuz they’re parents too!\nIf you want your child to learn\,\n\nWhat are you gonna do? \n\n\n3. Hand out flyers and English\, Chinese and Spanish.\n \n4.Tweet your support.\nSample tweets:\nCreate a #ECESFbuzz! #Walk4ECE on April 15!\n#Walk4ECE on April 15!
