SUMMARY:Blue Ribbon Luncheon: Honoring 45 years of children’s advocacy
DESCRIPTION:Join Safe & Sound for the Blue Ribbon Luncheon on April 19th\, honoring 45 years of children’s advocacy. \n  \nKeynote Speaker: Nicholas Kristof \nNicholas Kristof is a journalist with the New York Times. How good do you really have to be\, to be christened the reporter’s reporter…by other reporters? You have to be Nicholas Kristof – good. After working in France\, Kristof began backpacking in Africa and Asia\, writing articles to cover his expenses. He’s lived on four continents\, reported on six\, and traveled to more than 150 countries. During his travels\, he has caught malaria\, experienced wars\, confronted warlords\, encountered an Indonesian mob carrying heads on pikes\, and survived an African airplane crash. Kristof not only managed to survive and press on\, he’s also won two Pulitzers in the process — advocating human rights and giving a voice\, to the voiceless. \n  \nPlease direct any questions to Ryan Hazelton at luncheon[@]safeandsound.org or (415) 213-7404

SUMMARY:Training: What's a child care site's role in an ECE ballot measure?
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco and Alameda Counties have ECE ballot measures before the electorate. The early care and education community: center & family child care educators\, directors\, owner/operators\, site supervisors\, and support staff know well how much additional funding is needed in our communities. But what is our role in advocating for it? \n\n\n\n\n\nMargaret Brodkin invites you to join SFCCPA and the Alameda ECE community at a Funding the Next Generation training exploring just that: \n\n\n\n\n\nWhat are the best ways to engage?\nWhat’s appropriate at my workplace?\nWhat’s allowed for a 501(c)3 (non-profit)?\nWhat’s allowed for an agency receiving city funds?\nWhat can I do?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis training will be held at the California Endowment Conference Center\, a block away from 19th St BART station in Oakland\, on Thursday\, March 22 from 12:45 to 3:00 pm. If you have any questions or ideas\, please e-mail or call Margaret Brodkin of Funding the Next Generation at 415-794-4963. \nPlease register to let us know you’ll be there!

SUMMARY:Help Collect Signatures for ECE Ballot measure
DESCRIPTION:We need your help to raise funds for early care and education in San Francisco. Help collect signatures and distribute materials. Sign up below!\n\n\nA ballot measure raising an estimated $100-150M\, with the majority of funds dedicated to ECE\, has been put forward by Supervisors Kim and Yee with the support of Fewer\, Ronen\, and Peskin. See the story on CBS news announced on Monday\, January 8. While this initiative has the support of the supervisors\, with enough public signatures\, this initiative could pass with a simple majority (50 + 1) vote\, instead of the 67% required of dedicated tax revenues placed on the ballot by supervisors.\n\n\nWe need the ECE community to help gather signatures. You can do this at your site\, in your neighborhood\, or at classes and events you attend. Can you help distribute materials? Sign up below to let us know!\n\n\n\nTimeline: The signature forms are under review by the City Attorney now\, and may be ready by January 22. We will distribute as soon as they are ready so we can turn them in by February 1.\n\nSupervisor Yee sends his thanks in advance\, and adds\, “Time will be extraordinarily short to gather signatures. We may have at most 2 weeks and as little as 10 days to gather 17\,000 signatures. All signatures must be by registered San Francisco voters. So it will be intense once we get going.”\n\n\nSign up to let us know you’re on board to help! Thanks.
