SUMMARY:Lunch Break for Educators.
DESCRIPTION:I’m immersed in policy discussions and decisions daily\, working to put the ideas that support educators (and the families and children we care for) into the decision-making. But the people who work directly with children every day aren’t at these meetings. I really need to talk with you! Let’s connect for “lunch” on Zoom \nJoin us to share how COVID-19 has impacted you\, your work\, and what you are thinking about or wanting to advocate for\, from wondering how long your paycheck will keep coming\, how your family has been impacted\, or … whatever thoughts you may be having about your day or your tomorrow—I want to hear them. \nAll teachers who (before March 17!) were directly caring for children at FCC or center sites\, welcome.

Register now\, and submit your questions to rinny@commercialfreechildhood.org by Monday morning. \nChild development specialist Nancy Carlsson-Paige\, EdD was a teacher educator at Lesley University for over 30 years. She is co-founder of Defending the Early Years and a writer\, speaker\, and activist. Kisha Reid is an early childhood educator\, education consultant\, and the owner and director of Discovery Early Learning Center\, a play-based preschool where she also teaches. \nThis webinar is designed for early childhood educators. If you do not work professionally with children\, we recommend watching Social Distancing as a Family: Screen Time Strategies and Resources instead of attending this one.

DESCRIPTION:Presenters TBD. \nAlleviating bias in our ECE settings is complex. Creating inclusive classrooms requires that we understand and acknowledge our own biases and recognize verbal and non‐ verbal messages conveyed by other adults and children. We need to know how to address these remarks and actions as they occur without causing a shutdown in communication. It will provide extended knowledge and practical application skills and strategies. You may choose to attend all sessions or as many sessions that are of particular interest to you. If you are attending the Equity Institute\, please note that the Anti‐Bias Practicum Training is an extension of our Equity Institute. \n\nWhat’s involved?\nThe Anti‐Bias Practicum Training will consist of eight 2.5‐hour highly interactive sessions. The first session will be an introduction to the Anti‐Bias Curriculum. Following the curriculum introduction each of the remaining sessions will focus on providing teaching practices and strategies to help you gain the skills necessary to integrate the anti‐bias goals successfully in your classroom or program. You will have the opportunity to discuss your ideas and plans for implementation\, get responses to your questions and feedback on application strategies from your assigned Coach. \n\nWho should attend?\nThe Anti‐Bias curriculum training is designed for teachers\, administrators and others in the ECE field that supports early learning. \n\nWhy participate?\nYour participation will: \n\nPrepare you to respond to children’s curiosity and\nsocietal influences that affect their self‐concept and\nattitudes towards others;\nAdvance skills and confidence in your ability to\nintegrate strategies to help children live effectively in a\ndiverse and complex world;\nBuild your professional network;\nProvide opportunities to learn from knowledgeable\npeople with expertise in the field.\n\nIf you are interested in registering please contact Katherine Clifford at katclifford@Comcast.net or call 650-906-8605.

SUMMARY:Addressing Incidents of Bias\, Put-downs Exclusion with Children
DESCRIPTION:Presenters TBD. \nAlleviating bias in our ECE settings is complex. Creating inclusive classrooms requires that we understand and acknowledge our own biases and recognize verbal and non‐ verbal messages conveyed by other adults and children. The Anti‐Bias Practicum Training is a series of interactive sessions designed to support teachers to integrate the Anti‐ Bias Goals into their curriculum.
