Northern California Learning Stories Conference
May 5 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Please join us for our Northern California Learning Stories Conference on Saturday, May 5th at San Francisco State University, hosted by EDvance. Based on New Zealand’s Te Whariki Curriculum, a ‘Learning Story’ is a documentation record that can be used to capture observations, document and assess children’s learning, engage families and inform curriculum. Learning Stories have been found to increase family engagement and support teachers in gathering data for the DRDP – through meaningful observations and assessments intended towards documenting, planning and extending children’s learning experiences in authentic ways.
To provide early childhood educators, family child care providers, administrators, policy makers, and higher education faculty with research, best practices, and practical implementation regarding Learning Stories. This event will highlight the amazing work being done in our communities to expand the possibilities of alternative assessment through engaging and interactive workshops. Attendees will leave inspired with a strong understanding of how they can implement elements of Learning Stories into their own practice.
We are thrilled to have Wendy Lee, an international leader and author in authentic assessment practices in early childhood and the Director of New Zealand’s Educational Leadership Project. She will be accompanied by three New Zealand educators and trainers who will share how New Zealand adopted a restorative justice curriculum and how they use learning stories as a form of authentic assessment in their early childhood centers.
